Summertime by George! canceled for 2020

The Rotary Club of St. Cloud has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Summertime by George! (SBG) concert series, due to concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The decision was made following the guidelines of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and in consultation with officials at the City of St. Cloud, Stearns County Public Health and CentraCare.

“With all the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, we feel this is the best decision for the health and safety of our community members, band members, vendors and our own club volunteers,” said Troy Fritz, Summertime by George executive committee member. “Of course, this is very painful and sad for our club members.  We know how much the greater St. Cloud community looks forward to spending Wednesday nights each summer with us at Lake George. However, there are simply too many unknown factors surrounding the expected spread of the virus in Minnesota in the coming months.”

The 2020 season was scheduled for 12 weeks from June 10 to August 26 to be a 10th anniversary celebration of SBG. The Rotary Club of St. Cloud launched SBG in 2011 to celebrate the park improvements surrounding Lake George in downtown St. Cloud. The Rotary Club and the City of St. Cloud partnered on the park improvements. Each Wednesday night, the series featured Minnesota bands and typically drew more than 10,000 people each week.

“We have a fabulous lineup planned to celebrate our 10th anniversary and we look forward to gathering again with everyone in 2021,” Fritz said.
